祈禱 (Qi Dao) MY PRAYER

Vince Chu

April 6, 2011

Penang had it’s own favorite Elvis impersonator in the early 60s — Vince Chu. Vince was actually an Indonesian Chinese attending school in Georgetown, Penang (Malaysia) when he won the local Elvis Presley Contest title. Like Rocky Teoh, he sang many contemporary Chinese pops in English (Here, Please be mine from the popular Chinese song, 午夜香吻 Midnight kisses). He recorded with The Jungle Lynxs and toured with the Maggie’s A Go Go Pop Show in Malaysia and Brunei. He also recorded an EP with The Tyros.

TENDER FEELING

I can’t conceal the tender feeling
Now that you are close to me
I look at you with tender feeling
And can’t help kiss you tenderly

I offer you a true devotion
All life through my love I vow
For this is real, this sweet emotion
This tender feeling I have now

Somehow I knew from the moment our lips first met
You’d be the girl I could never forget
No other love could be appealing
I loved you right from the start
And with each kiss I’ll keep revealing
The tender feeling in my heart

Beautiful countryside
Ocean all around so wide
I’ll stay there
Yes, I’m gonna stay there the rest of my life
Yes, I’m gonna stay right there

Malaysia, Wonderful Malaysia
People you love right away
Not enough hours in the day
The nights seem to slip away
In Malaysia
Yes, I’m gonna stay there the rest of my life
Oh yes, I’m gonna stay right there

(YOUR CHEATIN’ HEART)
Your cheatin’ heart, will make you weep
You’ll cry and cry, and try to sleep.
But sleep won’t come, the whole night through,
Your cheatin heart, will tell on you.

When tears come down, like falling rain,
You’ll toss around, and call my name.
You’ll walk the floor, the way I do,
Your cheatin’ heart, will tell on you.

Your cheatin’ heart, will pine some day
And crave the love, you threw away.
The time will come, when you’ll be blue,
Your cheatin’ heart, will tell on you.

L. Ramli & Orkes Teruna Ria

September 20, 2010

L Ramli was from Sungai Nibong Besar, Penang. It was a time when lagu pop melayu was kugiran (“kumpulan gitar rancak” or uptempo guitar bands) and pop-yeh-yeh. He recorded with Orkes Teruna Rio. The first song Dara Pujaan was a hit in 1962. They continued to record more hits like Antara Kau Dan Aku, Salma, Pertemuan Terakhir, Puja, Nasib Si Pungguk and Oh Nona. The song Siapa Bilang Aku Tak Sayang was a major hit in 1965.

(SIAPA BILANG AKU TAK SAYANG)
Rindu kasih yang ku kenangkan
Sudah terikat di dalam hati
Adik bukan saudara bukan
Hati kasih kerana budi

Apa dikata tetap ku kota
Aku tiada mungkirkan janji
Sungguh engkau jauh di mata
Tetapi dekat di hati

Siapa… bilang
Hatiku tak kasih sayang
Jikalau… burung
Lama sudah aku terbang

Siang malam menanggung rindu
Lamanya sudah aku menanti
Bilalah kita dapat bertemu
Tak tertahan rasa di hati

Walaupun engkau di lautan api
Aku nak turut ikut bersama
Hajat besar di dalam hati
Hendak mati bersama-sama

Siapa… bilang
Hatiku tak kasih sayang
Jikalau… burung
Lama sudah aku terbang
